CRCN condemns Tiv, Ichen crisis in Taraba
The Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria (CRCN)Taraba, Sunday condemned the ongoing killings between the Tiv and Ichen tribe in Donga local area of the state.
President of Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria, Rev Dr Caleb O.S Ahima, while briefing journalists in Jalingo, lamented that the communities in Donga LG were passing through difficult time.
He stressed that the church was unhappy with the CRISIS between the two peoples that once lived happily, carrying out economic activities.
The CRCN president, who was represented by vice president of the church, Rev Dr. Isaiah Magaji Jirapye, expressed worried that the church was sad over the crisis.
He noted that at a time the world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging communities, it was surprising that people of the faith should get involved in destroying lives and properties worth millions of naira.
“We are supposed to be vigilant in prayers and supporting each other in accordance with the teaching of the scriptures, which outlines killings and shedding of blood as a sin against God.
“The church is particularly worried because the raining season has just commenced and people are expected to be in the farm and not to be chasing each other with arms. The situation portends serious danger if farmers do not go to farm to produce food for the society,” he said.
He appealed to the two warring parties to as a matter of urgency lay down their arms and embrace peace, calling on the stakeholders of the two tribes to ensure immediate end to hostilities.
